Taro: The Polynesians who settled the Hawaiian islands brought with them plants and animals they knew they would need. Among them was taro, the staple of the early Hawaiian diet. Considered sacred, it was cultivated with great care, and no part of the plant was wasted. Today it is perhaps best known as the main ingredient in poi, still a key dish in Hawaiian cuisine, whose recipe hasn’t changed since the times of those earliest settlers.
The shape of our "Simple Taro" Hawaiian Quilt design reminds some people of a clover, or a cross. Can you see it in the design?
